• Getting Started with CME

  • Continuing Medical Education is often misunderstood. The Centura Health CME Departments have established the following guidelines to assist in the process of obtaining CME credit. Our target audience is primarily physicians. Participation by non-physician professionals is encouraged where appropriate.

    Keep in Mind…

The content or format of a CME activity or its related materials must promote improvements or quality in health care and not a specific proprietary business interest of a commercial interest. Presentations must give a balanced view of therapeutic options. Use of generic names will contribute to the impartiality of educational content.

    General Guidelines

    1. A physician planner must be a member of the medical staff at a Centura Health Hospital, with active status, and must be actively involved in the planning.
    2. A "Needs Identification" process must be conducted.  Ideally the needs assessment should confirm or define the following:

› Where is the targeted audience or patient population in relation to the ideal?
› Who is your learner (target audience)?
› What problems or issues does the target audience have in their professional practice?
› When do they have the problem?
› Is it a problem of their knowledge (not knowing), competence (cannot apply the knowledge), performance (cannot or do not do) or patient outcome (patient population data is not what it should be)?
› What is the underlying reason for the problem?
› If the problem did not exist, what would that look like (the ideal)?

    3. No publications, brochures or notifications of any kind may be printed or distributed prior to final approval from the CME Department at your Centura Health Facility. Materials must be submitted for approval prior to printing or mailing.

    4. CME credit will not be granted if these prerequisites are not met.
