Our board-certified cardiologists and radiologists are known throughout Denver and Colorado for their expertise and ability to diagnose heart disease and other medical conditions.

    Using state-of-the-art technology and the expertise of a comprehensive cardiovascular treatment team, the Porter's Heart and Vascular Institute frequently performs numerous diagnostic procedures and tests, including the following:

    • Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
      An MRI scan is an advanced imaging procedure that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed pictures of the heart with regard to blood flow.

    • Computed Tomography (CT) Calcium Score
      A CT scan that can identify hard plaque in the coronary arteries.

    • Coronary Computed Tomography Angiogram (CTA)
      This CT scan can identify both hard and soft plaque in the coronary arteries. In addition to a calcium score, identification of potentially dangerous soft plaque and vessel narrowing can be done with the use of IV dye.

    • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
      A non-invasive test that measures the electrical activity of the heart.

    • Echocardiogram
      A test that evaluates the structure and function of the heart while determining early signs of systolic and diastolic dysfunction.

    • Carotid Intima-media Thickness (IMT)
      A test that measures the thickness of the carotid artery wall.

    • Lipid or Advanced Lipid Testing
      Porter uses traditional lipid testing  for rapid results and review of cholesterol levels and advanced lipid testing using  nuclear magnetic (NMR) spectroscopy for detailed lipoprotein LDL particle information.

    • Stress Testing
      Procedures are designed to provide a patient's cardiologist with an evaluation of the coronary arteries of the heart. Highly accurate and cost effective, these tests are administered by a team of professionals made up of physicians, nurse practitioners and technologists whose purpose is to make the patient experience as pleasant as possible. Stress testing includes exercise tests and myocardial perfusion.
