Hepatobiliary surgery at Porter Adventist Hospital includes treatments for cancer or anatomical abnormalities in the liver, bile ducts, gall bladder and pancreas. Due to the specialized nature of liver transplantation, the team has unique capabilities to solve the most complex hepatobiliary problems with a variety of surgical techniques.
Also, our highly experienced surgeon can perform JUMP grafts to solve the most complex problems related to arterial blood flow or anatomic issues in hepatobiliary cases. This expertise allows patients a much lower risk of complications post operatively.
Porter’s Liver team can rapidly evaluate and begin treating a diagnosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (“HCC”). A newly diagnosed patient can usually be seen in clinic the next business day. Time is of the essence for treatment and/or beginning the process of evaluation for liver transplant listing.
We are also one of only a handful of hospitals in the U.S. to have a NanoKnife® to permit treatment of tumors where other forms of ablation such as cryo and radiofrequency could not be used due to proximity to major vessels. At Porters we have successfully used NanoKnife® during Whipple procedures and liver resections.
The Transplant Center at Porter, also does evaluation and placement of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (also known as a TIPS procedure). This is a highly specialized procedure done by an interventional radiologist. The physician team will collaborate daily to determine which interventions are best for each patient.
Liver tumors may be treated by hepatobiliary surgery (liver disease surgery), laparoscopic liver resection, chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, NanoKnife, Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) with Y-90 embolizations and/or liver transplant.
Surgical or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
