  • TransplantThe Transplant Center At Porter team is dedicated to providing patients and their families with an environment focused on more than just the medical side of their care. The entire transplant team is dedicated exclusively to helping patients in every aspect of their treatment from medical care to dietary guidance, social and psychological support, to assistance with financial and insurance matters. The Transplant Center at Porter is a place where top-tier medical professionals, using state-of-the-art equipment and techniques, deliver patient centered care in a private hospital environment designed to support both the physical and spiritual health of patients and their families.

  • Bipin BistaDr. Bista is a fellowship-trained nephrologist specializing in organ transplant.  Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Bista completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy Hospital  in June 2009 and served as Chief Resident the following year. Following residency, Dr. Bista completed two fellowships at the University of Minnesota focusing on nephrology and hypertension as well as transplant nephrology. When not treating patients, Dr. Bista is spending time with his wife and daughter enjoying Denver and the mountains of Colorado.

    David Cronin, MDDr. Cronin is a board certified general surgeon with fellowship training and decades of experience in transplantation surgery. Dr. Cronin is experienced in adult and pediatric liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation as well as live donor liver and kidney surgery. In addition , Dr. Cronin provides surgical treatment for benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts. Dr. Cronin received his medical degree from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and a doctoral degree in immunology, residency in general surgery, and transplantation surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago. Most recently, Dr. Cronin received a master’s degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.

    Dr. Cronin is an award winning surgeon with professional recognition on a national and international level. He has authored numerous papers, participated as an investigator in a variety of research studies and participated in many professional societies. Dr. Cronin’s care philosophy is to provide the best care possible, for every patient, every time.

    Gerond Lake-Bakaar, MDDr. Lake-Bakaar is a board certified transplant hepatologist. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of liver disease. Dr. Lake-Bakaar received his medical degree from King's College Hospital Medical School in London, England and completed his residency at King's College Hospital and The London Hospital. His fellowship training was under Dame Sheila Sherlock at The Royal Free Hospital in London, England. He was also Berson Fellow with Rosalyn Yalow, co-winner of the 1977 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

    Dr. Lake-Bakaar has esteemed medical background and training, most recently serving as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He has been involved in various research and clinical trials to improve the field of transplant hepatology, and his most recent book Alcohol and the Liver was published by Nova Science Publishers.

    Philippe Gauthier, MDDr. Gauthier was born in Australia and raised in New York. He received his medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency and served as chief resident. Dr. Gauthier has been a member of the Porter transplant team since September 2004, where he serves as the director of transplant nephrology. When Dr. Gauthier is not working, he enjoys the culinary arts and riding his motorcycle.
    Mary Ann Huang, MDDr. Huang is board certified in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. Dr. Huang received her medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. Following residency, she completed two fellowships at the University of Michigan Medical Center focusing on gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. Dr. Huang considers herself a guide for helping patients make the most informed decision about their gastroenterology and liver health problems. She believes communication and compassion are essential to provide great care to everyone.  Dr. Huang treats liver disease and gastroenterology disease. Procedures she performs includes colonoscopies, proctosigmoidoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and endoscopies (esophagus, stomach, small intestine).

    Richard Lovato MDDr. Lovato is a board-certified surgeon that specializes in general and laparoscopic surgery with extensive experience in renal vascular and kidney transplant surgeries.

    Kian Modanlou, MDDr. Modanlou is a dedicated transplant surgeon that specializes in abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgeries, including minimally invasive techniques. His areas of focus are liver, kidney and pancreas transplants. Dr. Modanlou’s philosophy is to provide comprehensive care to patients in an environment where they are engaged and informed about their treatment plan.

    He received his medical degree at University of California, Davis School of Medicine, completed his General Surgery Residency at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and his fellowship at Northwestern University. Dr. Modanlou is board-certified in General Surgery and fellowship-trained in Transplantation Surgery.

    As a leader in his field, Dr. Modanlou has published numerous journal publications, abstracts and book chapters pertaining to transplant surgeries. He has also been the recipient of many prestigious honors and awards and regularly lectures across the county on topics related to transplantation.

    Dr. Nathan SusnowDr. Susnow is fellowship trained in transplant hepatology and gastroenterology.

    Dr. Yoo Dr. Yoo is a fellowship trained surgeon in renal transplant/vascular access and abdominal transplant surgery. Her areas of focus include liver, kidney, kidney/living donor and combined kidney/ pancreas transplants. 

    Dr. Yoo completed her medical degree, general surgery residency and renal transplant/vascular access fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Her abdominal transplant surgery training was done at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Methodist Transplant Institute, in Memphis. Dr. Yoo’s philosophy is to provide individualized care for all her patients. 

    As a leader in transplant surgery, Dr. Yoo has published numerous journal publications, abstracts and book chapters around liver and kidney transplantation and care of end stage renal patients. She has also received numerous awards and honors for her work.

    RockyEngbarth_ej0608_Porter2-web.jpg Rocky Engbarth is a graduate of Western Michigan University's Department of Physician Assistants and is NCCPA Board Certified. He has over 13 years of combined experience in orthopedics, cardiothoracic surgery, and general cardiology. He has been with the Transplant Center at Porter for over 6 years and has become a very integral part of the team, taking care of our hepatology and liver transplant patients. In his free time he and his wife travel across the country and abroad to play competitive sand volleyball. When at home, they enjoy spending time with their four furry children.
    Christina Glenn 140x170Christina Glenn received her Master’s of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Emory University School of Medicine. She is currently NCCPA board certified and has over 12 years of experience in Gastroenterology with a special interest in treating cirrhosis and hepatitis C. She also has over 14 years of experience as a practicing physician assistant with expertise in hospital and clinic based medicine. Christina takes pride in educating patients in their diagnosis and treatment options and strives to connect with every patient on a personal level.

    Dan Humer, PA-CDaniel Humer is a board-certified physician assistant.  He earned his Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies with an emphasis in acute care and surgery at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona.  Dan has been a member of the Porter Transplant Team since 2011, where he takes care of liver and kidney transplant patients as well as hepatobiliary patients.


    Whitney Morse NP-C - 140x170Whitney Morse is a board certified nurse practitioner. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with Registered Nurse First Assist from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In the five years prior to receiving her masters, Whitney worked in a dedicated Transplant ICU as a critical care staff nurse in Memphis, TN. Her goal is to provide compassionate patient centered care to transplant and hepatobiliary patients. Whitney enjoys working through all the moving parts with her patients and her greatest reward is the end result of a healthy patient coming back to visit. Outside of the office she enjoys traveling, cooking, hiking, skiing, and being outside.
