6 Questions You Should be Ready to Answer when calling your doctor

When you are prepared to answer the following questions, your doctor will best be able to make recommendations for you.

  1. Do you have a  fever? Take your temperature with a thermometer. Know your current temperature and how long you have had the fever.
  2. Do you have pain?
If pain is present, describe where on your body and what type. For example - sharp, dull, achy, etc.
If pain is present, how bad on a 0 to 10 scale. Zero being no pain and 10 being the worst pain you've ever had.
  3. How long have you been ill?  Have brief description of the timeline of your illness and any changes in symptoms.
  4. What medications and over the counter medications are you taking? Know the names and dosages of all medications you are taking.
  5. What allergies to medicine or food do you have? Know your allergies and specific reactions you have had.
  6. Are there any other symptoms that are new?  Have you experienced rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, stiffness, swelling or anything else that is not normal for you?
