Porter's 3-T MRI

Porter Adventist Hospital is a leader in diagnostic technology and imaging procedures. Our board certified radiologists are known nationally for their expertise and ability to diagnose heart disease, various cancers and other conditions.

  • CT Calcium Score - This CT scan can identify hard plaque in the coronary arteries. A score will be generated so that you can compare your score to other men and women your age. This scan does not use IV dye and is of a lower radiation dose than a coronary CTA.

  • Coronary CTA - This CT scan can identify both hard and soft plaque in the coronary arteries. In addition to a calcium score, identification of potentially dangerous soft plaque and vessel narrowing can be done with the use of IV dye. This scan uses a higher radiation dose than a calcium score CT alone and an oral medication may be required to slow your heart rate prior to the scan.

  • Electrocardiogram - A non-invasive test that measures the electrical activity of the heart.

  • Echocardiogram - Evaluates the structure and function of the heart. Helps determine early signs of systolic and diastolic dysfunction.

  • Carotid IMT - Measures the thickness of the carotid artery wall. It gives you your arterial age and whether or not you have plaque build up.

  • Lipid or Advanced Lipid Testing – Traditional lipid testing is available for rapid results and review of cholesterol levels. On request, a detailed advanced cardiovascular diagnostic test of lipids is available that uses nuclear magnetic (NMR) spectroscopy. This detailed lipoprotein LDL particle information allows clinicians to make more effective individualized treatment decisions than previous standard lipid testing.

  • Stress Testing - Procedures designed to provide your cardiologist with an evaluation of the coronary arteries of the heart.  Highly accurate and cost effective, these tests are administered by a team of professionals made up of physicians, nurse practitioners and technologists whose purpose is to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
    • Exercise Tests - Exercise tests are used to analyze heart rhythm and stamina. The patient runs on a treadmill or rides an exercise bike at increasing speeds and/or resistance while sensors continuously record the heart rhythm.
    • Nuclear Medicine / Myocardial Perfusion - This type of test shows how well blood is flowing to the heart muscle (myocardium). A radioactive tracer is injected and images are taken during exercise and at rest. The tracer highlights areas of the heart where there is blood flow.
    • Cardiac MRI - Painless magnet waves are used to evaluate the heart as well as blood vessels connected to the heart and lungs.
