Interested in joining our hospital community? Well, we’re looking forward to meeting you! If you are 14 or more years of age and can commit to a minimum of six months of volunteering for one 4-hour shift per week, you can get started now.

Commitments we ask you to make

To ensure that we provide consistent and effective assistance to our patients, staff and families, we do ask that you:

• Are 14 years of age or older
• Commit to a minimum of six months for (1) four-hour shift per week (unless you’d like to volunteer in our Summer Junior Volunteer Program, in which case you can join for a minimum of nine weeks)
• This applies to college students in the summer as well.
• Apply to the program, which includes filling out an application, attending an interview and orientation and taking a free-of-charge tuberculosis test.

Steps to joining our team

Help us find the best place for you at Porter Hospital by taking the following steps:

1. Application Form:
   Fill out and mail us one of these application forms: coming soon!
   • Adult Application for Volunteer Service - This application is for you if you’re not attending school and are over age 18
   • Junior Application for Volunteer Service Application - This application is for you if you’re 14 years of age or older and about to enter your freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year of high school
   • Student Application for Volunteer Services Application - This application is for you if you’re 18 years of age or older and currently enrolled in an educational institution
   • “Paws for a Cause" Application for Volunteer Services – This application is for you if you have a dog two years of age or older
2. Interview:
   Please call the Volunteer & Courtesy Services Department at 303-778-5693 to set up a 30-minute interview. In this interview, we’ll talk with you about your interests, abilities, schedule and our openings and needs. From there, we’ll figure out together where we can best use your talents.
3. TB Test: Porter will provide a free tuberculosis test after the orientation
4. Background Check: We will also conduct a background check to insure security and safety.
5. Orientation:
   Attend a two-hour volunteer orientation at Porter where we’ll introduce you to the hospital and discuss what you need to know to volunteer. Topics include safety, confidentiality and infection control.
6. Department Training: Depending on which department you’ll be working in, you’ll be asked to attend training as necessary, such as volunteering for the Center for Sight, “Paws for a Cause" and so on.
